How to Choose Roman Shades !

Roman_blind

  • Do you have room for stackback? That’s the part of the drapery panel that opens to each side of your window? If the answer is no, a Roman shade would be a great alternative.
  • Are your windows odd sizes or difficult to reach? If so, again- Roman shades are convenient and even come synced to remotes for those difficult-to-reach windows.
  • Do you prefer a window treatment that is a bit more streamlined and less feminine? If your answer is yes, Roman shades would be a great fit.
  • Is the window located in a really small room or area? Roman shades don’t physically take up as much space as traditional drapery, since they’re mounted inside the window frame or above it.
  • Do you have pets or children that might pull or rub against drapery panels? If so, you should totally consider Roman shades! The dogs can’t get them dirty and the kids can’t pull and tug on them.

How to choose the colours for Roman Shades?

Colours will depend on your personal preference.  Some people like to have their shades the same colour as their walls, creating a nearly seamless look.  Other people use their window treatments as an accent piece.  What you want to do is up to you.  If you aren’t sure, bring home some samples and look at them in your room.  Leave them there for a while to really get a feel for what you like.

When are neutral colors best?

Like everything else, this depends on your style and the overall feeling you want to create in your room.  If you want the room to be chic and understated, choosing all neutral colours can have a calming effect.  Conversely, if your room is full of bold colours, you may want to pick a lighter shade of a neutral colour that is used somewhere in the room; pulling a colour from the rug can work.

When are bold colours best?

If your room is primarily in neutrals, either light or dark, choosing a bold accent color for your roman shades can add an extra pop to the room.  Brightly colored shades in a room full of beiges can add a cheerful feel that gives the perfect finishing touch.  A strong yellow will set off a room with lots of navy in it.

Should I choose solid colours?

Solid colours are always a suitable choice.  They go particularly well in rooms that already have strong prints.  Solid-colored roman shades will complement, rather than compete with, a patterned comforter or couch that can stand alone as the focal point of the room.

What about patterns?

If your room is full of solid-coloured pieces, adding patterned shades can create a fun twist.  Patterns can be bold and colourful or more conservative.  A small tone-on-tone pattern can add a rich, textured look without being obviously patterned.

Energy Efficient

Roman blinds can help you save on your electricity bills. It’s because the blinds can keep heating in or let it out. Furthermore, roman blinds also provide light control, specifically the pleated design. However, some other styles won’t provide you with a full light blockage, which means that if you’re aiming for a really dark room, then you won’t achieve it with roman blinds. However, the good thing about roman blinds is that they come in one piece, which makes it great for privacy.

Easy to Operate

Gone are the days when you have the deal with blinds because the cord that allows you to pull it up or down gets stuck. Roman blinds are easy to operate because it features cords infused with today’s modern technology. There are even motorised versions that you can get. Now, you don’t have to worry about any cord tangles and what-not.

What if I still can’t decide ?

If you’re getting overwhelmed, don’t try to make the decision alone.  Consult with your spouse, friends, or a professional decorator.  Having someone there who can help you validate your feelings or suggest something you may not have thought of on your own.  Just talking it through and getting a second opinion can make the decision-making process easier.
